V\u00e1rios tipos de alcaloides, amino\u00e1cidos n\u00e3o prot\u00eaicos, aminas, flavonoides, isoflavonas, cumarinas, fenilpropanoides, antraquinonas, di-, sesqui- e triterpenos, inibidores de protease, lecitinas e glicos\u00eddeos cianog\u00eanicos foram descritos nesta fam\u00edlia, a maioria dos quais funcionam como produtos qu\u00edmicos de defesa ou sinalizadores. Os compostos fen\u00f3licos, dentre eles os flavonoides, s\u00e3o encontrados em grandes quantidades nas plantas desta fam\u00edlia, exibindo uma grande variedade de propriedades farmacol\u00f3gicas. Al\u00e9m disso, atuam tamb\u00e9m como marcadores quimiotaxon\u00f4micos nestes vegetais. Desta forma, esta linha de pesquisa tem como objetivo investigar a presen\u00e7a de compostos fen\u00f3licos (\u00e1cidos fen\u00f3licos, flavonoides e isoflavonoides em especial) em extratos de esp\u00e9cies da fam\u00edlia Leguminosae, de ocorr\u00eancia no Brasil, por diversos m\u00e9todos cromatogr\u00e1ficos e espectrosc\u00f3picos. E a partir destes, estabelecer correla\u00e7\u00f5es quimiom\u00e9tricas com os dados taxon\u00f4micos dispon\u00edveis.
